Te Huruhi Primary School caters to younger students from years 1 to 6. It had a roll of 276 students in November 2024. This is where the educational journey begins for many children in Surfdale. Both schools are coeducational.

The population of Surfdale is diverse. In the 2023 census, 85.3% identified as European. 13.8% identified as Māori. Other ethnicities include Pasifika, Asian, and Middle Eastern, Latin American, and African New Zealanders. This mix of cultures adds vibrancy to Surfdale.

English is the primary language spoken. 97.1% of people speak it. Māori language is spoken by 3.6% and Samoan by 0.6%. Surfdale embraces its multicultural identity.
