Established in 1840 Travis County boasts a rich history. It’s named after William Barret Travis the Alamo’s defender. Imagine a time long before Austin’s bustling streets. The Civil War saw Travis County voting against secession. It became part of the Confederacy despite its vote. Post-war years brought rapid population growth.
