Now, St Hedwig’s isn’t just any church. It’s a beacon of Polish heritage, a testament to the enduring spirit of faith. But there’s more to St Hedwig’s than meets the eye. Imagine this: Christmas Day, 1914. The Polish community in Northeast Minneapolis is growing fast, their faith as strong as ever. Sixteen families, deeply devoted to their faith, came together and pooled their resources, a significant sum for the time. Their goal? To build a place of worship, a spiritual home for their community. They purchased six lots on the west side of University Avenue and laid the foundation for what would become St Hedwig Catholic Church, named after the revered 13th-century Duchess of Silesia, a woman of wisdom, strength, and the Patroness of Poland.
