Remember that moment when you first truly appreciated the nuanced flavors of a fine Scotch? That feeling is at the heart of the Scotch-Club Bremen.

The Scotch-Club Bremen is more than just a club. It is a haven for whisky lovers in Bremen. It all started with a group of about 20 customers. They frequented the “Scotch Corner” spirit shop. This shop sadly closed a long time ago. These enthusiasts shared a passion. They loved Scotland and its national drink: Single Malt Whisky. Some called it “liquid sunlight”. Others referred to it as “distilled central heating”.

To keep their meetings alive, the Scotch-Club Bremen was founded on April 1, 2002. They wanted to continue whisky tastings in Bremen. The club also aimed to create a regular meeting place. This was for all whisky fans in Bremen and beyond.

Love for Scotland is a key ingredient. Members also share a love for its history and specialties. The club values enjoyment and treating oneself well. Interestingly, over a quarter of the members are women. Most of these women prefer Islay whiskies.

From its modest beginnings with 20 founding members, the Scotch-Club Bremen e.V. has flourished. It now boasts over 130 members. This makes it likely the largest non-commercially run whisky club in Germany. It is also the only whisky club with its own dedicated space.

The Scotch-Club Bremen club life centers around enjoying Scotch whisky. But it also extends to a deep appreciation for Scotland. This includes its people, music, and writers. Special occasions are celebrated with enthusiasm. They celebrate Robert Burns’ birthday. This happens every January 25th. The club observes it with a traditional “Burns Supper”. Saint Patrick’s Day is also an occasion for festivities.

The Scotch-Club Bremen regularly fills individual casks. Members and guests can enjoy these and take them home. For that extra touch of style, members can acquire kilts. These kilts feature fabric with the club’s own tartan. It is officially registered in the Scottish Register of Tartans.

The Scotch-Club Bremen organizes visits to whisky fairs. They also arrange trips to whisky festivals in Germany. A highlight is the journey to the “Feis Ile.” This is the Islay festival of Whisky and Music. Many members fondly remember the club’s Scotland vacation.

Smaller events add to the club’s appeal. There is a “Marathon Breakfast” during the Bremen Marathon. The club rooms are right along the route. Some members even participate in Highland Games.

In April 2022, the Scotch-Club Bremen celebrated its 20th anniversary. The club has elevated the concept of a regular meeting to a new level. They chose to become a registered association. This allows the club to conduct legal transactions. It reduces risk for individual members.

The Scotch-Club Bremen even took over a former shop. They transformed it into a club cafe. This provides a permanent bar with regular opening hours. It also provides space for monthly whisky tastings. The club selects and bottles casks for its members. For the anniversary, they featured an Aultmore and a Tullibardine. Both were bottled at cask strength.

The Scotch-Club Bremen’s cafe is open every Friday. The opening hours are from 4 PM to at least 9 PM. Members and guests can enjoy a well-stocked whisky bar. It typically offers around 20 to 25 open malts. These include current bottlings, older bottlings, and rare finds.

The club welcomes guests. Just check if a tasting is scheduled for that day. On tasting days, the cafe closes at 5:30 PM.

Whether you are a seasoned Scotch connoisseur or a curious beginner, the Scotch-Club Bremen offers a welcoming community. Here, the shared love for “uisge beatha” creates lasting friendships and unforgettable experiences. Cheers to the next dram.
