Stately nineteenth-century living rooms. That’s what awaits inside Møstings Hus. Today, Møstings Hus stands as a platform for Danish contemporary art. But let’s rewind to uncover its story.

Møstings Hus dates back to a time when Frederiksberg was the place for summer residences. Imagine wealthy Copenhageners escaping to this area. The house was built around 1800. Ditlev Frederik Feddersen a judge commissioned it. The architect remains unknown adding a layer of mystery to Møstings Hus.

In 1809 Johan Sigismund von Møsting acquired the house. He likely employed a student of Caspar Frederik Harsdorff for the design. Møsting was a prominent figure. He became Minister of Finance and a member of the Housing Council. Møsting and his family spent their summers here until his death in 1843.

Interestingly Møstings Hus wasn’t always at this exact location. It originally stood at the corner of Smallegade and Falkoner Allé. In 1901 most of the surrounding buildings were torn down. Møstings Hus received protection under the Danish Building Conservation Act in 1918.

A company bought Møstings Hus in 1924. They opened the Rialto Teatret cinema next door. Fast forward to 1958. New owners planned a larger cinema complex. They dismantled Møstings Hus with a promise to rebuild it elsewhere. That promise was fulfilled in 1977.

Now Møstings Hus is located at Andebakkesti 5. It sits next to the former village pond of Solbjerg. A similar building houses the ephor of Hassagers Kollegium. But what makes Møstings Hus special today?

It serves as a venue for exhibitions concerts and literary events. Møstings Hus offers a unique setting for art. The building encourages artists to engage with its special environment. Exhibitions here become immersive experiences. They are hard to forget.

Consider the high ceilings chandeliers and views of Andebakke Lake. These elements play a central role. They shape both the artistic touches and the visitors’ experience. Møstings Hus is more than just an art gallery. It is a historic house reborn as a cultural hub. Its walls have stories to tell. From summer residence to art space Møstings Hus continues to evolve.
