The Quito Ecuador Temple the second temple built in Ecuador holds immense spiritual significance for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Before its construction members had to travel hundreds of miles to the Guayaquil Ecuador Temple. Some even endured 13-hour overnight bus trips just to attend temple services. The Quito Ecuador Temple drastically reduced travel time for many. This made attending temple services much easier.
The temple’s groundbreaking ceremony on May 11 2019 was a momentous occasion. Elder Enrique R Falabella presided. The event was attended by Ecuador’s Interior Minister and other religious leaders. More than 800 people celebrated the start of construction. A local church leader spoke of the temple as a refuge a safe place amid life’s challenges.
The temple’s design is breathtaking. Its exterior is clad in white Turkish limestone. The building features a single central spire topped with a golden angel Moroni statue. The interior boasts intricate floral motifs inspired by the geranium a flower synonymous with Quito. Even the carpets reflect these patterns. The building sits on 396 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds including a fountain and royal palm trees.
Construction was completed in 2022. A public open house was held before the temple’s dedication on November 20 2022 by Elder Quentin L Cook. This temple isn’t just a building.
