Ever wonder why this beach is called Playa de Puerto Rico? It is a holiday resort on Gran Canaria’s southwest coast. Here at Playa de Puerto Rico, the sun shines almost all year.

Temperatures are pleasant. Winter stays around 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. It rains less than three days each month. Gran Canaria’s volcanic origin created this rugged coastline.

Many ravines lead to the sea. Holiday homes fill these rocky areas. Apartment complexes and hotels line the cliffs. They lead down to long natural beaches.

Playa de Puerto Rico boasts a sandy beach. It features two small harbors. Shops and restaurants are in commercial centers. Pasarela Center is closest to the beach. The main Commercial Center is in the middle of Puerto Rico. Europa Center sits on the west side. Mogán Mall is more exclusive and further inland.

Just one kilometer northwest of Playa de Puerto Rico is Amadores Beach. It is another popular spot for tourists. Further northwest is Tauro Beach.

Puerto Rico is great for water sports enthusiasts. You can find almost any water sport here. Getting to Puerto Rico is easy. Bus line 91 takes about half an hour from the airport. Bus line 1 takes over an hour. Both lines have multiple stops in Puerto Rico.

Direct buses also run from Puerto de Mogán. Lines 1, 33, and 91 serve this route. Maspalomas is connected by lines 1 and 33. Las Palmas is accessible via line 91. Once you arrive, the village is easily explored on foot.

Remember to be sustainable during your visit to Playa de Puerto Rico. Never leave waste behind. This includes cigarette butts. Leftover food attracts rats and wild cats. Do not throw anything into the sea. Respect the animals. Do not bother or feed them. If you see an injured animal call 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.

Also, do not take stones or other natural items. Avoid building those sad little “towers”. Refrain from using soap in beach showers. Ocean-friendly sun creams are best. Most beaches do not allow pets. Keep the peace. Avoid loud music or bothersome games. Enjoy Playa de Puerto Rico responsibly.
