“We’ve made many new friends” a participant once exclaimed. That simple sentence perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Mount Greenwood Lutheran Church. Located in the southwest Chicago neighborhood this church isn’t just a building it’s a vibrant community hub.
Mount Greenwood Lutheran Church isn’t just another church in Chicago. It’s a place where intentional ministry thrives. Its story began with a simple act of kindness a seed planted by a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. They decided to invite members of Blue Cap Blue Island Citizens for Persons with Developmental Disabilities to a meal.
The initial gathering was a success. So the church hosted another meal and more people came. This simple act of hospitality blossomed into a beautiful ministry. Mount Greenwood reached out to Voice of Care seeking resources and guidance. They weren’t just providing food they were building relationships.
Reverend Louis Vician started a Bible study which included the Blue Cap members. The bonds between the congregation and the Blue Cap friends strengthened. It became a true partnership not just an outreach program. The church actively serves as Jesus’ hands and feet in the community.
Mount Greenwood Lutheran Church is more than just a place of worship. It’s a place where people come together to learn listen pray and work. They share the Good News actively reaching out to their community. It’s a place to believe belong and become. They proclaim “We do not preach ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord”.
