Imagine art students bustling through skyways. They are headed to studios filled with creative energy. This is the Regis Center for Art. It is more than just a building. It is a hub of artistic exploration at the University of Minnesota.
The Regis Center for Art houses the Department of Art and the Katherine E. Nash Gallery. These are located in two buildings. They are Regis East and Regis West. A skyway connects them on the University of Minnesota campus.
Katherine Nash founded the gallery in the 1970s. It occupies 4,900 square feet. It is located within the Regis Center for Art. The Regis Center for Art stands on the West Bank of the Mississippi River.
Let’s step inside Regis West Gallery. It is a space dedicated to student exhibitions and community partnerships. Here, art comes to life. Students display works from various courses. You can see drawing, painting, and printmaking. “In Rotation” highlights artists. It shows works fresh from the studio.
Public Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday. They are from 11 am to 5 pm. The gallery is closed Sundays and Mondays. Feel free to call the Gallery for entry. The number is 612-624-7530.
Student access hours differ. With a UCard, students can enter Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm. Saturday and Sunday hours are 7:30 am to 8:00 pm. Remember, the building is closed during University holidays. Call ahead for hours during breaks.
To reach the Regis West Gallery, enter through Regis East. The address is 405 21st Avenue South. Take the elevator or stairs to the second floor. Cross the skyway. You will arrive at the Regis West Gallery.
Regis Center for Art provides accessible features. It welcomes visitors using mobility devices. Service animals are also welcome. A gender-neutral restroom is on the second floor of Regis West.
Consider attending the DPP Regis West Takeover. It occurs in March. Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking students showcase their work. Or visit the BA Capstone in late April and early May. A public program and closing reception are scheduled.
