The story of Escuela Italiana Cristoforo Colombo begins after World War II. Many Italian families arrived in Argentina. Their children had their studies interrupted by the conflict. Recognizing this need, Father Giuseppe Sutera and professors Emilio Giacometti and Giuseppe Finazzi organized courses. These courses allowed young immigrants to complete their education. The first lessons were held on Calle Moreno.

In 1951, the school acquired its first building. This was thanks to a donation from engineer Pietro Rozzi de Olivetti. Initially, it was to be named after Alessandro Manzoni. Manzoni was the father of modern Italian language. However, in 1952, the Asociaci\u00f3n Cultural Italiana Cristoforo Colombo was founded. The association chose to name both institutions after Christopher Columbus. He was a symbol of the link between the Old and New Worlds. The association manages the school. It is a non-profit civil entity. It comprises family members of students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff.
In 1953, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognized the Scuola Media and Liceo Cient\u00edfico. This was in agreement with the Argentine Ministry of Education. The ministry sent Professor Bozzo in 1954. She was the first ministerial teacher. Student numbers increased. In 1958, the school moved to Calle Quirno Costa. By the late 1960s, Argentine students were welcomed into this bicultural project.
The current location of Escuela Italiana Cristoforo Colombo was inaugurated in 1974. The Municipality of Buenos Aires donated the land in the Belgrano neighborhood. Today, the school covers over 10000 square meters.
