Eastridge Church in West Seattle has a deep connection to this area. It celebrated 90 years of ministry in 2021. The church started in 1931. It was first known as Victory Tabernacle. It later changed to West Seattle Assembly of God. Finally, it became Eastridge Church West Seattle.
The church has a rich history. It carries a legacy of Christian teaching. Its mission is outreach and ministry for the whole family.
Initially, the church met in a theater building. This was on California Avenue at the main West Seattle junction. Later, it moved to a store building. This building was on the 3200 block of California Avenue. The church grew. Leaders planned to find a better and larger location.
Around 1950, the church bought land. It was at the corner of 39th and Oregon. Plans were made to construct a preliminary building. The first building phase included only a basement. Future plans included an additional level.
For several years, the congregation worshiped in the basement. Around 1954, the top level was built. The new second level was dedicated in February 1957. By 1966, the church had outgrown its facility again. A new annex was planned. It included offices, a printing room, and restrooms. Eight new classrooms and two large meeting spaces were added. Construction started in October 1966. It was completed in April 1967.
In 2005, the church was close to closing. It then merged with Eastridge Church in Issaquah. Fresh vision and excitement revitalized the campus. It became a beacon of hope in the community again.
Its rich history lives on. Longstanding members and new families continue the legacy. They continue 90 years of ministry to the people of West Seattle. They offer weekly services. They host Bible studies. They organize outreach events.
