Years go by, families grow, and Downers Grove slowly takes shape. But the pioneers who shaped this village, their lives eventually come to an end. The first to be buried here is Lucy Ann Wilson Downer, Pierce’s wife, in 1863. Tragically, Pierce follows her just one day later. They are laid to rest beneath the very trees that witnessed their early life. And so, the Pierce Downer Cemetery, a small but significant piece of history, becomes a place where generations honor the spirit of this pioneering family. Today, it serves as a quiet reminder of their legacy, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
