Masjid Kampung Siglap is located at 451 Marine Parade Road. The mosque’s story began long before its current structure. An original, small 80-year-old masjid stood on this very site.
Fast forward to 1992. The new Masjid Kampung Siglap was completed. It was built under Phase Two of the Mosque Building Fund. Architects successfully preserved the kampung architecture and ambience. The result is a unique blend of tradition and modernity.
Masjid Kampung Siglap can accommodate up to 3000 people. It serves as a vital religious and community hub in the East. But this mosque is more than just a place of prayer. It’s a center for learning and growth.
The mosque houses madrasah classes. These classes provide Islamic education to students of all ages. But there’s another special feature here. Masjid Kampung Siglap is home to a Tahfiz Al-Quran center.
This center, known as Darul Quran Singapura, focuses on memorizing the Al-Quran. The idea for a dedicated memorization center arose in the early 1990s. The Lembaga Pendidikan Al-Quran Singapura was formed to provide a venue for Muslims to learn and memorize the Al-Quran.
In 1999, the old Kg Siglap Mosque building was chosen as that venue. Its location offered tranquility away from the city. Its village-like architecture symbolized a return to one’s roots through the Al-Quran.
The building underwent renovations. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore funded this. The Pusat Tahfiz Al-Quran Singapura opened its doors on May 30, 1999. It welcomed its first batch of students. Mufti of Singapore officially opened it on July 18, 1999.
In 2006, PTS expanded its role. It included all programmes related to Quranic memorization and recitation. In 2009, PTS became Darul Quran Singapura.
Beyond religious education, Masjid Kampung Siglap emphasizes family development. The Centre of Family Development provides guidance and courses. They enhance family life.
