Atop a simple hill, the Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Rosario del Milagro stands as a beacon of faith. It is a relatively young parish, canonically erected in 1981. But its story is deeply intertwined with a much older tale, one that begins an ocean away. The Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Rosario del Milagro takes its name from the patron saint of Córdoba, Argentina, a devotion dating back to 1592. The original image of Our Lady of the Rosary of the Miracle arrived miraculously, floating in a crate to the shores of Callao, Peru, after a shipwreck. The crate, addressed to the Dominican Friars in Córdoba, was eventually transported across the Andes, becoming a symbol of hope and divine intervention. Here, in the heart of the Piedra Buena housing complex, the Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Rosario del Milagro echoes that same miraculous spirit. This church isn’t just a building; it’s a testament to the enduring power of faith within this community. Built amidst 107 towers, mostly housing working-class families, the Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Rosario del Milagro quickly became the spiritual heart of this “micro-city”. It was a place where the community could gather, celebrate, and find solace. The parishioners, deeply grateful for their new church, lovingly referred to it as “Our Lady of the Miracle of Our Own Roof”. In 1982, the community erected a statue of Our Lady of the Rosary of the Miracle at the main entrance, surrounded by gardens. It serves as a constant reminder of the community’s devotion and gratitude. So beloved is this statue that the surrounding neighborhood is often referred to as “the neighborhood of the Virgin”. The Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Rosario del Milagro, though young, carries the weight of a centuries-old miracle. It stands as a testament to the power of faith, the resilience of a community, and the enduring presence of Our Lady of the Rosary of the Miracle.
