Picture this a sprawling 70-hectare woodland Ermelunden. It gently slopes downwards. The descent is dramatic a 25-meter drop from Klampenborgvej to the valley between Lyngby and Klampenborg.

Ermelunden is more than just trees. It’s a significant part of Copenhagen’s history and nature. Originally part of the Ibstrup hunting lodge near the current Jægersborg barracks its history is intertwined with the lodge. The ponds on Ermelundssletten especially Hjortedammen near Klampenborgvej were initially carp ponds for the castle.

The rich fertile soil supports a variety of flora including yellow anemones. Ermelundssletten a large grassy area in the heart of the forest boasts three ponds. These ponds are not just pretty water features. They played host to large scouting events. Most notably the 2nd World Jamboree in 1924. Thousands of scouts from across the globe gathered here. Imagine the energy the excitement.

Ermelunden’s history continues to unfold. While the Ibstrup hunting lodge is gone Ermelunden remains a testament to Copenhagen’s past. It’s a place where nature and history intertwine creating a unique and enchanting space. It is a living breathing part of the city’s heritage a place where history whispers among the leaves. A place where the echoes of past jamborees mingle with the rustling of leaves.

Today you can still walk through Ermelunden. You can explore its paths and discover the beauty of its diverse ecosystem. You can even see the ponds. They’re remnants of a grander past. But they stand as silent witnesses to the stories Ermelunden holds. So take a moment breathe in the fresh air. Let the serenity of Ermelunden calm your soul. Let the whispers of the past speak to you. This is Ermelunden a place where time itself seems to slow down.
