Soaring high above Universal Studios Singapore’s Sci-Fi City the Battlestar Galactica dueling roller coasters dominate the skyline. This isn’t just any thrill ride. It’s a testament to engineering and cinematic immersion. The Battlestar Galactica is a pair of coasters one inverted and one a traditional seated design. They are the tallest dueling coasters worldwide reaching a height of 140 feet.
The Battlestar Galactica opened in 2010. Initially seating four abreast the trains were later modified for two abreast seating. This was after a period of closure due to issues with the ride vehicles’ structural integrity. Engineers redesigned the seat supports to improve structural performance.
The Cylon coaster. It’s a suspended coaster with five inversions. Riders experience intense maneuvers including a cobra roll corkscrew loop and zero-G roll. The ride features a dramatic plunge into an artificial fog-filled pit creating the illusion of a near-miss with the ground.
The Human coaster. It’s the sit-down coaster designed for those who prefer thrills without inversions. But don’t let that fool you. Universal Studios Singapore engineers claim it generates higher G-forces than the Cylon. The Human coaster is designed as a Colonial Mark II Viper. Before the ride begins a robotic voice ominously declares “This has all happened before. This will all happen again.” As the ride launches riders hear “Happy Hunting. So say we all.”
The Battlestar Galactica is more than a ride. It’s an experience. It’s a fusion of cutting-edge engineering and iconic science fiction. It’s the only Battlestar Galactica-themed coaster at a Universal Studios park. The near-miss collisions between the two tracks add to the intensity. These moments evoke the thrilling battles from the series. The ride even uses Linear Synchronous Motors for high-acceleration launches.
The Battlestar Galactica’s legacy extends beyond its thrills. It highlights the challenges and triumphs of creating innovative and safe amusement park experiences. It also stands as a popular attraction at Universal Studios Singapore. It remains a testament to the enduring popularity of the Battlestar Galactica franchise.
