Here stands Meadowbrook Church a testament to faith and community. This church has a rich history. It began with two small congregations in 1911. They were the Sycamore Heights Methodist Episcopal Church and the Sagamore Hill Methodist Episcopal Church.

These missions were led by theology student Alonzo Monk Jr. Both churches were in the Meadowbrook area. This area was part of the former Polytechnic Community of eastern Fort Worth. By 1925, both churches had grown too large for their buildings.

In 1928, they merged. They formed the Meadowbrook Methodist Episcopal Church South. The 475 charter members held their first services that year. They met in a new two-story frame sanctuary. It was located in the 3900 block of Meadowbrook Drive. Reverend Jesse Herman Baldridge was the first pastor.

In 1939, the church’s name changed. It became Meadowbrook Methodist Episcopal Church. The frame building became a Sunday school. A new Gothic-style stone sanctuary was built in 1949.

Subsequent building programs improved the facilities. A fellowship hall was added. Meadowbrook United Methodist Church continues to serve the community today. It offers various programs.

The current Gothic-style church building was designed by Wiley G. Clarkson. His design was influenced by the First United Methodist Church in Downtown Fort Worth. Initially, only the sanctuary was built.

An education wing was added around 1954. A separate fellowship hall followed around 1959. Additional education space connected all the facilities in 1968. All the spaces mimicked Clarkson’s original design.

In 2004, the Community Life Center was added. It is a free-standing building at the south end of the block. On January 1 2020, Poly United Methodist Church merged with Meadowbrook. The combined name became Meadowbrook-Poly United Methodist Church.

Meadowbrook Church has a recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation. Meadowbrook Church stands as a beacon. It is a place where faith and community intertwine. It welcomes people with open arms. The church provides accessible entrances and restrooms. An elevator and parking are available.
