“Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church: A beacon of faith.
Founded in the spring of 1950 by Reverend Elijah Miles the church began as a small congregation. The Lord blessed them and the church quickly grew. In 1951, they purchased property at 70 Clark Street. The existing structure became their first church home in September of that year.
Working together, they raised money and used donated materials. In 1956, they built their original sanctuary. But the Lord continued to bless Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
By 1970, the congregation had outgrown their sanctuary. An addition was added to accommodate the growing membership. This new space included a recreation area. It also had a kitchen, a dining room, office space and a baptismal pool.
Reverend Miles went home to be with the Lord in January 1985. Reverend Emanuel Johnson began his pastorate in December 1985. Under his leadership, the congregation continued to increase. A larger sanctuary was needed. In the spring of 2005, the congregation moved to their present worship space.
Reverend Johnson retired in 2010 because of health reasons. Reverend Sherman Dunmore was elected pastor. He served from October 2010 until January 2014. After he left, Reverend Donald Golden was asked to serve as pastor. He was officially installed as Senior Pastor in March 2015.
