Children’s laughter rings out. It bounces off the vibrant mosaic tiles of the Hedwig Schebberling vom Schönen Felde sculpture. This isn’t just any sculpture. It’s a testament to the power of inclusive learning. It stands proudly before the Förderschule Schloss Schönefeld.
The Hedwig Schebberling vom Schönen Felde sculpture is more than just artwork. It’s a landmark. A symbol of Schönefeld’s children actively shaping their environment. The project Kiez wandeln Schönefelder Landmarken inklusiven Lernens made it possible.
From June to December 2019 children worked tirelessly. They weren’t just passive observers. They were active participants. Children from the Förderschule Schloss Schönefeld and the Astrid-Lindgren-Schule collaborated. They worked with the object artist Viktoria Scholz. Together they designed and built the sculpture. They covered it with tiles. They carefully grouted it. Their creative energy shines through every colorful piece.
The name itself holds a special story. Many children submitted suggestions at the Schönefeld Christmas market. Hedwig Schebberling vom Schönen Felde was chosen. The official christening ceremony was smaller than planned. It was still a special moment. You can even watch the ceremony online.
The sculpture isn’t alone. It’s the first of several planned landmarks. A second landmark was created in October 2020 at the Astrid-Lindgren-Schule. It looks completely different. But it is just as colourful. It’s a mobile landmark. This means it can be easily moved and reassembled at different locations. A third landmark was planned for Spring 2021 depending on the situation.
Look closely. You can almost feel the joy and collaboration. The Hedwig Schebberling vom Schönen Felde sculpture isn’t just a beautiful piece of art. It’s a symbol of hope and inclusivity. It’s a testament to the creative spirit of Schönefeld’s children. Their voices are heard. Their talents are celebrated. Their mark on their community is visible for all to see. It’s a powerful reminder that even small hands can make a big difference.
