A steep climb awaits you. Welcome to Rue Pierre Audry. This isn’t just any street in Lyon. It’s a living testament to history transformation and community spirit.

Rue Pierre Audry links the Gorge de Loup and Saint-Just neighborhoods. It was once a busy road aging and lacking in facilities for non-car travel. That all changed. From March 2021 to Spring 2022 major renovations took place.

The goal was simple safer travel for everyone. Wider sidewalks appeared. Cycle paths now snake up the 7% average incline. But the changes went deeper than just infrastructure. The project aimed to increase greenery. It succeeded. Around a hundred trees were planted. Vegetated areas now offer shade in summer and help manage rainwater.

The street’s layout was redesigned to slow traffic. The roadway is now narrower just two lanes one in each direction. Children from nearby schools played a key part. They participated in educational workshops. They even helped design the new Square Katia Krafft. This new square is located where Rue Pierre Audry meets Rue du Bas de Loyasse.

The story of Rue Pierre Audry goes back much further. It follows the path of an ancient Roman road. This road existed outside the city’s ancient limits. It served as a cemetery. In 1845 during road widening Roman grave markers and amphorae were unearthed. The street’s name honors Pierre Audry an engineer at Rhodia. He died in 1940 during World War II. His name is a symbol of sacrifice.

The street’s transformation is more than just a facelift. It represents a commitment to sustainability and community engagement. It’s a place where history and modernity blend. It’s a place where children’s creativity helped shape the future. It’s a place where you can feel the pulse of Lyon. It’s Rue Pierre Audry a street with a story to tell. A story that continues to unfold.
