Born from the ashes of the Peaceful Revolution the Evangelisches Schulzentrum Leipzig stands tall. It’s a testament to the hopes and dreams of a city reborn. This school didn’t just appear. It rose from the initiative of Christian parents who sought a place where their children could learn and grow without limitations.

In 1991 the Evangelisches Schulzentrum Leipzig opened its doors. It wasn’t just any school. It was the first Christian school in Leipzig. It was also the first cooperative comprehensive school in Saxony. A unique blend of Grundschule Oberschule and Gymnasium it served over 1000 students of various faiths. Its original home was within the walls of the old Goetheschule. Seven teachers guided 121 students. The school quickly outgrew its space.

Imagine the bustle of the first years. The excitement of a new beginning. The challenges of building something from nothing. The founding principal Burkhard Jung later became Leipzig’s mayor. A truly remarkable journey for one man.

The school expanded with new buildings including a music house and a modern gymnasium. The original building from 1876 originally served as a higher school for girls. Architect Max Bösenberg and Georg Häckel designed the four-story building. It featured 22 classrooms each a generous 52.2 square meters. The school even included a teacher training seminar. It was once run by the reform pedagogue Hugo Gaudig.

Today the Evangelisches Schulzentrum Leipzig continues its mission. It offers a full range of education from elementary school to the Abitur. It integrates students with disabilities and those from diverse backgrounds. It boasts a thriving arts program featuring an upper school choir and orchestra. It even has its own theater.

This theater housed in the former Blue Cross church is a vibrant space. It hosts student performances as well as community events. The Evangelisches Schulzentrum Leipzig is more than just a school. It’s a community a legacy. It’s a living example of faith resilience and the power of education. A true heart of Leipzig.
