Gazing upon Place de Londres, a quiet alley in Paris’s 9th arrondissement, one can almost hear the echoes of history. Place de Londres, despite its name, is purely Parisian. It’s a small, almost hidden, passage, just 115 meters long and a mere 3 meters wide. It begins at 84 bis, Rue Saint-Lazare, and ends at 13, Rue de Londres. The name, Place de Londres, comes from its connection to Rue de Londres. This larger street was formed in 1840 by Mr. Tessier. He named it “Passage de Londres,” a nod to the British capital. Place de Londres offers a tranquil escape from the bustling surrounding streets. In the 19th century, this area was part of the old 1st arrondissement, in the Roule quarter. Back then, the Passage de Londres began between 96-98 Rue Saint-Lazare and finished at 13 Rue de Londres, just as it does today. Interestingly, the ISCOM (Institut Supérieur de Communication et Publicité) has called number 7, Cité de Londres its home since 1986. If you’re ever near the Saint-Lazare train station, a stroll down this unique little passage is a must. Place de Londres is a charming reminder of the hidden gems tucked away within the grand city of Paris.
