Did you know that what we now call ArtsDepot was once just a dream discussed at the Barnet 2000 conference? This unique venue, a beacon of creativity, sits on a site that lay dormant for over two decades. Before ArtsDepot graced this space, a weekly market thrived here, a pale echo of the Gaumont cinema that once entertained crowds until its closure in 1980. ArtsDepot itself wasn’t just dropped from the sky. It was the brainchild of passionate individuals who saw a need for a dedicated arts space in the borough. The vision took shape in 1996 when residents expressed their desire for improved arts facilities, supplementing the much smaller Bull Arts Centre in High Barnet. The idea for ArtsDepot was born! It was to be a beacon for the arts in North London. Officially opened on October 23rd, 2004, ArtsDepot boasts two impressive theatres: The Pentland, a grand space seating 395, and the more intimate Studio Theatre, holding 148. But ArtsDepot is more than just performances. It’s a hub with dance and drama studios, a gallery, a bustling café, and even the London Studio Centre sharing its space. ArtsDepot is a testament to the power of community vision and the enduring impact of the arts.
