Beneath the vast Texas sky, the story of Glenn Heights unfolds. Glenn Heights is a city born from the ambition of a Dallas firefighter named N.L. “Moe” Craddock. In the late 1960s, Craddock established a mobile home park on 30 acres of land, a venture that would become the seed of a new community. Fearing annexation by the neighboring city of DeSoto, Craddock championed the incorporation of Glenn Heights. His efforts culminated in the city’s official birth on September 16, 1969. Glenn Heights in 1970 was a small town of just 257 residents. The following decades witnessed remarkable growth. By 1980, the population had quadrupled to 1,033. The growth continued, reaching 4,564 in 1990 and exceeding 7,000 by the turn of the millennium. The city continued its expansion, reaching a population of 11,278 in 2010 and further climbing to 15,819 by 2020. Interestingly, despite this rapid expansion, a significant portion of Glenn Heights remains undeveloped, offering a glimpse into the city’s potential for future growth. Craddock, the city’s founding father, remained an influential figure in Glenn Heights. He served on the city council and was elected mayor multiple times during the 1980s and 1990s, leaving an enduring legacy on the city he helped create. Glenn Heights today, spanning across both Dallas and Ellis counties, is a testament to Craddock’s vision. It’s a city with a rich history, a thriving present, and a promising future.
