This imposing bust, unveiled in 2022, stands in front of Gate 4 at Rate Field, home to the Chicago White Sox. They were nearly lost to another city in 1988. The White Sox were looking to move, but Thompson, with his reputation as a skilled dealmaker, convinced Illinois lawmakers to fund a new stadium for the team. The stadium opened in 1991, ensuring that the White Sox would forever remain a part of the Chicago sports landscape. It’s a testament to his efforts and his dedication to the city and state. From his work in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office to his leadership in the 9/11 Commission, Thompson’s life was dedicated to public service.
