Here stands the Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation. It is more than just a building. It embodies compassion and selfless service.

The Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation started in 1966. Dharma Master Cheng Yen founded it in Taiwan. It began as a volunteer-based organization. Its mission was to spread Great Love. This love extended to Charity, Medicine, Education, and Culture. The foundation later expanded. It included International Relief. Bone Marrow Donation. Environmental Protection. Community Volunteerism became important too. Today, Tzu Chi has volunteers worldwide. They operate in 68 countries and regions. The foundation has provided aid in over 136 countries and regions.

In the beginning, Dharma Master Cheng Yen worked hard. Her first five monastic disciples joined her. They raised funds creatively. They made and sold baby shoes. Her teachings inspired many. Thirty housewives played a crucial role. They saved a small amount daily. Each put a TWD 50-cent coin aside. This went into their personal bamboo banks. They did this before grocery shopping. These humble donations grew. They became charity funds. The funds directly helped those in need. They assisted the local poor, elderly, and sick.

Tzu Chi’s goal is simple. It wants to spread selfless Great Love. It aims to reach every corner of the world. Like a seed, it multiplies. Compassionate actions inspire more love. This leads to a more peaceful world. The Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation’s Central Region is here in Dallas. It is actually based in Richardson Texas. It was established in 1992. Tzu Chi Dallas has been part of Texas VOAD since 2006. This means it helps with disaster relief. It aids those in need during crises. Past relief efforts include significant events. They responded to the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas. They also provided tornado relief in Moore, Oklahoma. Over 2,500 people benefitted.

The Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation focuses on vital services. Character Education is a key service. Disaster relief is also critical. Since 2002, they have achieved much. They gave out new uniforms. These went to disadvantaged students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They distributed over 100,000 uniforms. The distributions take place in schools. Teachers, parents, and children appreciate it greatly. Getting new things feels like a luxury for these families.

With continued support, programs can expand. More disadvantaged children can receive help. Disaster relief missions become possible. The Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation can assist people. They can help when misfortune disrupts their lives. The Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation is a beacon of hope. It shows what compassion can achieve. Its work transforms lives. It builds stronger communities. The journey of Tzu Chi continues. It inspires us all. It promotes kindness and service. Remember the story of the small coins. They made a big difference. Each act of compassion counts.
