Imagine a fortress rising from the earth. This is Fort de Villiers, a silent sentinel guarding Paris. Built between 1878 and 1880, Fort de Villiers stands as a testament to a time of great change. It is located in Noisy-le-Grand, a short distance from Paris.
The Franco-Prussian War of 1870 revealed the need for stronger defenses. The Fort de Villiers was constructed as part of the Séré de Rivières system. From the 1950s to the 1970s, it became an emergency housing center. Later, from 1980 to 2009, it housed various community organizations. The Fort de Villiers has transitioned through many phases.

Since 2001, the city of Noisy-le-Grand has owned the fort. They are working to restore it with the help of the Association de Sauvegarde du Fort de Villiers. In 2018, it earned the regional heritage label of Île-de-France.
Between 2021 and 2022, improvements were made to the exterior. Now, visitors can explore the site. A permanent educational path was inaugurated in 2022.
