Nestled within the bustling Saint-Jérôme campus, the Département Chimie at Aix-Marseille University isn’t just a building. It’s a crucible of discovery. A place where 150 teacher-researchers, 50 CNRS researchers, and 100 technical and administrative staff collaborate. They work alongside 1000 students, forging the future of chemistry. The Département Chimie partners with Ecole Centrale Marseille, amplifying its research prowess. Eleven joint research units drive exploration into radical chemistry, paramagnetic species, and the analysis and control of chirality. They delve into functional materials and the fascinating intersection of bio-inspired chemistry and the chemistry of life. These core themes branch out, encompassing spectroscopies, separative methods, process engineering, environmental chemistry, and even the mysteries of astrochemistry. The Département Chimie’s influence extends beyond academia. It collaborates with CRITT Novachim, bridging the gap between public research and over 180 private companies in the chemical and materials sector. This partnership infuses real-world applications into the department’s research and provides invaluable internship opportunities for students. The Département Chimie also nurtures future researchers through two doctoral schools. The Doctoral School of Chemical Sciences (ED 250) and the “Physics and Material Sciences” Doctoral School (ED 352) guide doctoral candidates through rigorous training, research, and professional development. The department’s four CNRS-contracted research laboratories form a powerhouse of scientific inquiry. The Institute of Radical Chemistry (ICR), the Institute of Molecular Sciences of Marseille (ISM2), the Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry (LCE), and the MADIREL laboratory push the boundaries of chemical knowledge. The Département Chimie, a vital hub within the Faculty of Science, continues to shape the landscape of chemistry.
