“Imagine a humble sanctuary transformed into a beacon of faith.” That is the story of Musholla Baitul Maamoer. It stands as a testament to community spirit and perseverance. Its story began long ago. It reflects Jakarta’s rich history.
Once upon a time, a small prayer house stood about 500 meters from here. This mushola existed during the Dutch colonial era. Bapak Jaba and the local community founded it. Over time, it fell into disrepair. It was almost collapsing due to age.
In 1963, H. Amat, H. Amit and H. Miat spearheaded a relocation. They moved the mushola and rebuilt it. The new structure stood on H. Miat’s land. It covered an area of 100 square meters. The building used red bricks and bamboo walls. It became known as Masjid Jami Al-Falah.
Around the same time, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Hidayah was established. It was a school built next to the mosque. H.M. Toeis Aminudin led the madrasah. It flourished until 1974.
In 1970, the mosque shifted westward. A permanent structure of brick was built. It stood on a 1,000 square meter plot. H. Miat bin H. Buang donated this land. However construction stalled until 1979.
By 1974, Madrasah Al-Hidayah separated from Masjid Al-Falah. The family of H. Amit took over its management.
A turning point arrived in 1979. The Regional Government of Jakarta stepped in. At that time, Tjokropranolo served as governor. They completed the mosque’s construction. He inaugurated the building. The name changed to Masjid Baitul Ma’mur. Ustadz H. Ahmad Suhaimi became the first chairman of the mosque’s council.
After H. Ahmad Suhaimi passed away in May 1997, H.A. Rachmat S. took over. This transition happened through a council meeting.
In August 2002, the old mosque was demolished. Usable materials were donated to other mosques. A month later, the Regional Government of Jakarta started rebuilding. This time, the land area was 2,140 square meters. Construction finished in December 2004. However, the mosque was already in use since December 2003. Upon completion, the congregation agreed to rename it Masjid Raya Baitul Ma’mur.
Following the death of H.A. Rachmat S. in January 2005, Gumin Has SPd. replaced him. He was appointed through a community meeting. His term began in March 2005. It lasted for three years.
The land has a special status. About 1,000 square meters were a donation from H. Miat bin H. Buang. The rest was acquired by H.A. Rachmat bin H. Miat.
Many individuals championed the mosque’s development since 1963. They include H. Amat, H. Amit, H. Miat, H. Ahmad S., H.M. Iwad and H.M. Toeis A. and H.A. Racmat S..
Today, Musholla Baitul Maamoer stands as a testament to faith. It shows the power of community. It serves as a reminder of the past. It inspires hope for the future.
