“Thirty years,” a passerby muttered, adjusting his spectacles. “Imagine, thirty years of broadcasting from this very spot.” He gestured towards the Shanghai Education Television Station (上海教育电视台), or SETV as it’s sometimes known. This sparked my curiosity. Here we stand, before the Shanghai Education Television Station. It’s a hub of learning and culture, nestled in Shanghai’s Yangpu District. SETV isn’t just another TV station. It’s a unique blend of education and entertainment, broadcasting children’s programs, documentaries, dramas, and cultural shows. It’s jointly owned by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai Open University, reflecting its commitment to lifelong learning. What’s truly remarkable is SETV’s dedication to innovation. They’ve established a digital education media laboratory with Tencent Cloud, pushing the boundaries of intelligent and digital development in education. They are constantly developing innovative programs and teaching materials, collaborating with educational resources across the Yangtze River Delta region. They even partnered with the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology to create programs about China’s space industry, sparking students’ interest in science and technology. And as a testament to their cultural reach, they’ve organized a Chinese poem competition for students in Shanghai and Taiwan. One of their most ambitious projects is Shanghai’s first health channel, created in partnership with the Shanghai Medical Association. This channel focuses on health education and promotion, collaborating with leading medical facilities in the city. So, as you look at the Shanghai Education Television Station, remember it’s more than just antennas and cameras. It’s a testament to the power of education, a bridge between generations, and a window to the future.
