Have you ever wondered what secrets lie nestled among whispering cedars? At Camp Whispering Cedars, just outside Downtown Dallas, the trees whisper tales of Girl Scout ingenuity and adventure. Whispering Cedars isn’t just a camp. It’s a 92-acre hub of STEM learning. Here, girls transform into the next generation of scientists, engineers, and leaders. The whispers started in 1920 with two Dallas Girl Scout troops. In 1924, the Dallas Council received its charter and a generous land donation. Ms. R.M. Hammond donated 20 acres and Mr. Alex Sanger 13. This formed the camp’s foundation in southwest Dallas. The Kiwanis Club joined the chorus, building a lodge, bathhouse, and a pool. By 1930, the Dallas Girl Scouts expanded the camp to 53 acres. The whispers grew louder in 1950 when the site officially became Camp Whispering Cedars. Cabins replaced tents, and the camp evolved. Through mergers and renovations, Whispering Cedars adapted. The biggest transformation came in 2015 with the construction of the STEM Center of Excellence. It opened in 2018. Today at Whispering Cedars, girls explore robotics, coding, botany, and even the science of music. They embark on journeys of cybersecurity and space science, earning badges that mark their growth.
