Have you ever seen an eye that could stare down the biggest skyscraper? Standing outside the swanky Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas, you can’t help but notice a massive eyeball staring right back at you. This giant, gleaming orb stands a whopping 30 feet tall, a hyper-realistic sculpture that’s part of the Joule Hotel’s impressive art collection. This is the “Eye,” created by artist Tony Tasset in 2007. It might look like an alien spaceship landed in Dallas, but this is actually a sculpture made of fiberglass – the same material big, kitschy roadside attractions are made of! It started its journey in Chicago, then spent some time in storage before landing in Dallas in 2013. The artist, Tony Tasset, says he “just wanted to make something awesome.” When you stand in front of the Giant Eye, it’s hard to disagree with him! It’s an eye-catching piece of art that reflects the city’s quirky and creative spirit. It’s no wonder that the Giant Eye attracts both locals and tourists alike and is a must-see for anyone visiting Dallas.
