“Fancy a bit of sport or a relaxing picnic?” I ask. Right here we find Cheong Park. It is a popular spot for locals.
Cheong Park sits on the corner of Bayswater Road and Eastfield Road. This park is a sporting hub. It offers a large oval for football and cricket. You can also find outdoor netball and basketball courts here. Even a playground is part of Cheong Park.
The park includes a large pavilion. There is also a picnic shelter with BBQs. Public toilets are available for your convenience. Fitness equipment is scattered throughout Cheong Park.
For those who love to exercise, the oval boundary is about 430 meters. A gravel running path circles the reserve. It stretches for about 800m. Three gym stations are set beside this path.
Station number one is near the basketball and netball court. It has a chest press and leg press. Station number two is near the playground. Here you’ll find leg raises and pull-ups. A sit-up bench and body pulls or push-ups are also available. Station number three is on the far side of the oval. It offers a stretch station and body twist.
The playground is great for kids. The larger structure has a wave slide. A climbing wall and climbing mat add to the fun. There’s also a fireman’s pole and steering wheel. A smaller structure includes a wave slide, abacus, and chain ladder. A see-saw, two old springers, and three swings offer more options.
Some of the playground is shaded by trees. You’ll find unshaded seats too. A shelter with BBQs and a table is available. There’s a water tap and toilets nearby. A large grassy area sits next to the oval.
Cheong Park is home to the South Croydon Cricket Club. It also hosts the South Croydon Football Club. Car parking is accessible via Eastfield Road.
So, whether you’re up for a game, a workout, or a family picnic, Cheong Park has something for everyone. It’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors.
