In the vibrant tapestry of Jakarta, GBI Jemaat Rajawali stands as a testament to faith and resilience. GBI Jemaat Rajawali has a rich history, spanning over 50 years. The church’s story began on September 9, 1959. Pastor Ishak Ang founded it under the name Gereja Bethel Injil Sepenuh (GBIS). The name “Rajawali” comes from the original street name, Jalan Rajawali. It later became Jalan Pademangan III Raya No. 12. Initially, GBI Jemaat Rajawali was a modest structure, covering only 70 square meters. This small church was a branch of GBIS Tanah Sereal, led by Pastor Liem Tjin Hoat. In 1970, GBIS Rajawali joined Gereja Bethel Indonesia (GBI). This led to the name change to GBI Jemaat Rajawali. The church then fell under the leadership of Pastor H.L. Senduk in Petamburan. Leadership transitioned several times. In 1975, Pastor Samuel Sutomo, Chairman of GBI DKI Jaya, took over. He then handed it to Pastor Frans Pranoto in 1978. Two years later, in 1980, Pastor Sutomo returned and was officially installed as the permanent pastor. Sadly, Pastor Sutomo passed away on September 28, 1996. Pastor Sadrach Effendi, then the deputy pastor, assumed leadership temporarily. On March 31, 1999, Pastor Ferry Hauriza ordained Pastor Sadrach Effendi as the permanent pastor. He has led GBI Jemaat Rajawali ever since. Pastor Sadrach Effendi also oversaw two major renovations of the church building, in 1998 and 2013. GBI Jemaat Rajawali has witnessed and participated in the transformation of this city. It has remained a steadfast beacon of hope and spiritual growth for its community.
