Amidst Rio de Janeiro’s vibrant tapestry of faith, stands the Assembleia de Deus Vitória em Cristo. This Pentecostal powerhouse, a beacon of Christian values, traces its roots back to a humble beginning in 1959 in the Penha neighborhood. Initially known as the Assembleia de Deus da Penha, it was founded by Pastor José Pimentel de Carvalho. The church blossomed under the leadership of Pastor José Santos, who took the helm in 1964. A pivotal moment in its history was the inauguration of the temple on Rua Montevidéu in 1996. The Assembleia de Deus Vitória em Cristo experienced another significant shift in 2010. Pastor Silas Malafaia assumed leadership and soon after, the church’s name was officially changed to Assembleia de Deus Vitória em Cristo. This change signified not only a new era but also a strategic move to distinguish the growing ministry from its original neighborhood location. Pastor Malafaia also steered the church towards independence, separating from the Convenção Geral das Assembleias de Deus no Brasil. This bold move allowed the church to chart its own course while still permitting individual pastors to maintain their affiliations. Today, the Assembleia de Deus Vitória em Cristo stands as a testament to its vision of growth and expansion. Its modern headquarters, inaugurated in 2014, can accommodate 6,000 people, a symbol of the church’s expanding reach. The church continues to play an active role in the community. It is one of the organizers of the Marcha para Jesus, a significant annual event in Rio de Janeiro, drawing crowds of approximately 600,000 people. The Assembleia de Deus Vitória em Cristo also actively promotes the integration of Christian values into the political landscape.
