What if I told you that this unassuming windmill, the Moulin des Mathurins, has a history as turbulent as the winds it once harnessed. The Moulin des Mathurins wasn’t always a silent giant. It was once a hub of activity, its sails whirling with the power of the wind. Built by the enigmatic Mathurin monks, it served as a vital part of their farming activities. The French Revolution, however, brought a halt to its industrious churning. The mill fell into disrepair, its wings removed, standing as a forlorn reminder of a bygone era. It wasn’t until the late 20th century, alongside the development of a shopping center, that the Moulin des Mathurins was revived. New wings, crafted from exotic wood, were fitted, a symbol of its rebirth. Its story took another twist in 2015. Fierce winds tore down the wings, leaving the Moulin des Mathurins once again stripped bare. But like a phoenix, it rose again, this time adorned with even stronger wings made of laminated pine. The Moulin des Mathurins stands today as a testament to resilience, a silent storyteller in the face of change.
