Imagine tiny feet running. Hear the echoes of laughter in the hallways. This is Kew College Prep, a place where education meets joy.

Kew College Prep is more than just a school. It is a nurturing environment for children aged 3 to 11. It’s located in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The school’s journey began in 1927.

Ellen Upton founded Kew College Prep. It started as a small school above a shop overlooking Kew Green. One of the first pupils was Mrs. Upton’s daughter. The school quickly grew.

Soon Kew College Prep moved to 98 Mortlake Road. This site now houses the Rotary Club. Back then, it was known as Kew College and Commercial School. It offered education for boys and girls above 11 and prepared younger children.

In 1939, the school found a new home at 26 Cumberland Road. This was a large Victorian house. Silverburn Preparatory School previously occupied the house. Ellen Upton purchased Silverburn, including its goodwill and chattels.

After 26 years of service, Mrs. Upton retired in 1953. She sold Kew College to Mrs. Hamilton-Spry. The school expanded into a second house at 24 Cumberland Road. A link extension connected the two buildings.

Mrs. Hamilton-Spry donated Kew College to a charitable trust in 1985. This ensured the school’s long-term future. We are grateful to Ellen Upton and Mrs. Hamilton-Spry.

Today, Kew College Prep has about 292 pupils. Children start in the nursery. They stay until the end of Year 6. Then they move on to secondary school.

The school’s motto is “Labor et honore.” This means “There is honour in hard work.” This reflects the school’s values. Kew College Prep combines an all-round education with strong academic results.

Sport and music are important at Kew College Prep. Many clubs cater to budding artists. The digital photography club is particularly impressive.

Kew College Prep focuses on traditional academic approaches in core subjects. Pupils work hard, especially in Year 5. This may explain the school’s outstanding exit results.

The pastoral curriculum underpins everything at Kew College Prep. The school works to ensure every child is listened to and feels valued. A strong sense of community exists. Governors and parents are committed to the school’s ethos and values.

Each year, Kew College Prep celebrates Founders’ Day in March. This day includes special activities for the children. It commemorates Ellen Upton and Mrs. Hamilton-Spry.

Kew College Prep continues to thrive. It provides a nurturing and challenging environment. Children are prepared for the next stage of their education. The school’s rich history and commitment to excellence make it a special place.

So, as you stand before Kew College Prep remember its humble beginnings. Appreciate the dedication of its founders. Recognize the achievements of its pupils. This is a place where hard work and honour go hand in hand.
