“Did it used to be a farm?” you ask, squinting at the unassuming Bâtiment 304. It’s a fair question, nestled as it is amongst the modern buildings of Orsay. It’s true. Bâtiment 304, despite its modern name, has a past as rich as the soil it once stood on. This structure was once part of “La Pacaterie”, a working farm that stretched across these lands. Imagine, if you will, fields of wheat and grazing cows where lecture halls now stand. Bâtiment 304 itself might have housed farm animals or stored harvested crops. Time, as they say, marches on, and “La Pacaterie” eventually gave way to the march of progress. Today, Bâtiment 304 stands as a testament to the ever-changing landscape, a silent sentinel whispering tales of a bygone era.
