Created in 2015 by Peter Schwenk, this isn’t just a sculpture, it’s a “Roundabout – Die Kunstkugel,” a piece from a series built on the poetry of arranged parts within a sphere. There’s no top, bottom, front, or back to the Erzähkugel. Its metal surface, depending on the light and your perspective, seems to shift and shimmer, holding secrets close. As you circle it, new facets reveal themselves. The Erzähkugel invites interaction. Turn it, walk around it, even stand on your head to view it. Every angle reveals a different narrative. Each piece welded onto the sphere contributes to a larger story. You become the storyteller, deciphering the metal whispers, connecting the fragments into your own unique interpretation. The Erzähkugel isn’t just about seeing, it’s about “reading” the art. It’s a material sphere, a color sphere, a story sphere. Schwenk created these “Erzählkugeln” in various sizes, from 40cm to a massive 240cm in diameter. This particular Erzähkugel, here in Munich, has inspired writing contests, sparking imaginations and giving birth to new stories. The sphere itself is a story magnet, drawing narratives to it like iron filings to a lodestone. It reminds us that stories are everywhere, waiting to be told, waiting to be heard, whispered from a metal sphere.
