In 1891, a seed of faith was planted in Leith. This seed blossomed into the Ebenezer United Free Church. The original Ebenezer United Free Church stood proudly on Great Junction Street. Sadly, progress sometimes demands sacrifice. In 1979, the old building was demolished to make way for new housing. But the spirit of Ebenezer was not so easily erased. A new home arose on Bangor Road. This new Ebenezer United Free Church, designed by Sir Frank Mears & Partners, opened its doors in 1984. Look up. Notice the unassuming structure. It’s crowned with a unique geometric metal framework holding a cross. This modern design stands as a testament to the enduring faith of the Ebenezer congregation. Inside, a former minister once boasted, you’ll find “the most comfortable seats of any church in the country.” Perhaps you’ll have a chance to experience that comfort yourself one day. Ebenezer United Free Church continues to serve its community. They offer services every Sunday at 11:00 am and 6:30 pm. If you’re curious to explore further, the church opens its doors on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Ebenezer United Free Church welcomes those seeking renewed faith. It offers a space for worship, prayer, and connection with others.
