Hidden amongst the trees, the K\u00e4seglocke whispers tales of creativity and unconventional living. The K\u00e4seglocke, or “Cheese Bell,” earned its nickname from its unique round shape. This whimsical house, nestled in the woods just off Lindenallee, was built in 1926. It was designed by the architect Bruno Taut for the writer Edwin Koenemann. Imagine Koenemann, seeking refuge from the bustling city, finding inspiration within these tranquil woods. The K\u00e4seglocke became his sanctuary, a place where words flowed freely amidst the rustling leaves. The house itself is a testament to artistic expression. Its circular design stands in stark contrast to the traditional architecture of the time. It reflects a desire to break free from convention, to embrace the unconventional. After Koenemann’s time, the K\u00e4seglocke took on a new life. The “Friends of Worpswede” association acquired the property in 1994. They meticulously restored the house and its surrounding gardens. In 2001, the K\u00e4seglocke opened its doors as a museum. Today, the K\u00e4seglocke showcases 150 years of Worpswede arts and crafts. Within its walls, you’ll find furniture designed by Bernhard Hoetger, the architect behind Bremen’s B\u00f6ttcherstrasse. The museum’s collection offers a glimpse into the lives and works of prominent figures like Heinrich Vogeler, Otto Meier, and Willi Ohler. The K\u00e4seglocke is more than just a museum.
