At Escuela 185 UNESCO, vibrant festivals once filled the air with color, music, and joy. Families gathered at the school, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Escuela 185 UNESCO wasn’t just a place for learning. It was a community hub. The school fostered collaboration, inviting everyone to share experiences and connect with teachers, students, and friends. Director Karla Averbuj envisioned this collaborative spirit. She aimed to create a space where everyone felt connected and valued. A dedicated teacher, Monica Meike, collaborated with students and teachers on a special project. They created the “ECO – NOTICIAS” bulletin. This bulletin highlighted the school’s commitment to environmental education. Students at Escuela 185 UNESCO learned about organic gardening and sustainable practices. Some even started their own organic gardens at home. The bulletin shared tips on caring for the soil, avoiding agrochemicals, and promoting biodiversity. Students also explored the nutritional benefits of a varied diet. They learned about the importance of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Field trips, like the one to Parque Lecoq, enriched the learning experience. Students observed animals, played games, and explored the natural environment. The school’s support program utilized the garden as a therapeutic space. Students engaged in hands-on activities. They worked in the compost, planted seeds, and prepared organic pest control solutions. These activities stimulated their manual skills and fostered a deeper understanding of nature. Back in the classroom, students connected their garden experiences to language arts, math, and science. They wrote about their experiences and practiced counting and problem-solving skills.
