GPIB Jemaat Nazareth

Gazing upon GPIB Jemaat Nazareth, one can almost hear the echoes of its rich history. GPIB Jemaat Nazareth stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith. It has served the community for decades. The church’s story begins in 1964, amidst Rawamangun’s growth spurred by the Jakarta By Pass construction. Newcomers, including Christians, sought a place for fellowship and worship. They formed “Perkumpulan Elim” and established “Nazareth”. Initially, they gathered in a family’s pavilion before becoming part of GPIB Jemaat “Eben Haezer” in April 1966. GPIB Jemaat Nazareth gained autonomy in 1969, becoming the 47th GPIB Jemaat in Jakarta. In 1971, the congregation acquired its own building on Jalan Tjutjut, now Jalan Sunan Drajat. The church thrived in the 1980s, with over 600 families and 12 service sectors. During this time, they purchased land near Jalan Waru, but plans for a new church there faced obstacles. Later, they acquired land and a building beside the existing church, leading to the present structure on Jalan Sunan Drajat and the Nazareth Pastori on Jalan Cakalang. Construction of the current church began in the 1990s, with approval granted in 1992 and the cornerstone laid in 1994. The building was completed and dedicated on May 15, 1994, coinciding with the church’s 25th anniversary. As Jakarta’s suburbs expanded in the new millennium, GPIB Jemaat Nazareth saw some families relocate. Yet, the “Nazareth DNA” and the sense of “We Are Nazareth Family” remain strong, wherever former members may serve. GPIB Jemaat Nazareth has journeyed from a small gathering to a vibrant community. It embodies the spirit of its motto: “Loving Jesus, Helping Others, Serving the World Together”. The church’s story is etched in its walls, a reminder of its unwavering commitment to faith and community.
