“Promoting spiritual growth through community engagement” is the motto of True Tabernacle Fellowship Church. Here at 4401 W Carroll Ave in Chicago, stands True Tabernacle. It has served the community for over 30 years.
True Tabernacle Fellowship Church of God in Christ plays a vital role. It addresses the social needs of local residents. The church fosters a sense of belonging. True Tabernacle offers various ministries. These ministries aim at individual development and enhancement of overall well-being.

Let me tell you about another church with a similar name and mission. In June 1953, a Missionary Group formed. It met at 310 W 43rd Street in Chicago. Rev Clarence L Brookins led it. Services occurred every Sunday afternoon. As the mission group grew, they needed a church. In September 1953, ministers organized this body of believers. New Foundation Baptist Church began. Rev Clarence L Brookins became its Pastor.
The church continued to grow. New Foundation Baptist Church settled at 38th and South State Street in Chicago. Different auxiliaries were organized. These included a Sunday School Department, Choir, and Usher Board. Reconstruction forced New Foundation to relocate. They found a temporary home at a funeral home. It was located at 49th and South State Street in Chicago.
Later, New Foundation moved to 48th and South Champlain Avenue in Chicago. They shared space with Rev Johnson and Zion Temple Baptist Church. With Rev Johnson’s help, New Foundation relocated to 540 East 43rd Street in Chicago. The church began a weekly radio broadcast over radio station WEDC. It became the first Black church to broadcast over that station.
Three churches were born out of New Foundation at 540 East 43rd Street. The church needed to relocate again. New Foundation found a home at 4620 South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago. Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and New Foundation joined together. They became one church at 4315 South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago.
After two years, the churches dissolved due to conflicts in 1964. New Foundation changed its name. It became True Foundation Missionary Baptist Church. Through faithful contributions, True Foundation moved to Tabernacle Center. The church held a weekly broadcast every Sunday evening. It aired from 7 to 8 pm over radio station WSBC.
From there, the church relocated to 7427-35 South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago. It remained there for several years. Then it moved to its present location at 8801 South Normal Avenue in Chicago in 1982. The name changed again. It became True Foundation Church-Baptist. In June 2001, True Foundation merged with Transformation Ministries. Rev Dr Larry A Brookins, Dr C L’s son, was the pastor. The name changed to True Foundation Transformation Church.
Dr C L retired in November 2002. Rev Dr Larry A Brookins became the Pastor of these joint churches. The church continues to flourish. It purchased a house. This became an educational building. Other properties surround the church. They enable adequate parking for worshippers.
True Foundation continued its outreach through radio broadcasting. Later, it expanded to television. It telecasts over Chicago Cable TV Channel 36. It airs every Wednesday night from 9:30 to 10:30 pm. It also airs on Thursdays from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. This has been going on for over 30 years.
From Dr C L Brookins to Bishop Larry A Brookins, the work continues. Souls are added to the church. The body of Christ is edified. This happens through preaching, teaching, fellowship, and outreach.
