In 2001, Providence Academy opened its doors. It started as a dream of its board president in 1994. Providence Academy aimed to provide a faith-based education built on academic excellence and character development. This vision became a reality in Plymouth, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. The founders, including prominent businessmen like Dan Frederick, Bill Cooper, and Bob Cummins, raised $20 million. Their goal was to create a school grounded in Judeo-Christian values. Providence Academy quickly became an official Catholic school affiliated with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The school began with 206 students. Today, Providence Academy serves over 900 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The campus has expanded significantly since its opening. A $14 million addition in 2006 brought new classrooms, labs, and a media center. The architecture of Providence Academy is inspired by the College of William & Mary in Virginia. It sits on a sprawling 41-acre campus. The school boasts a remarkable athletic program, with 26 varsity sports. The girls’ basketball team has won multiple state championships, and the girls’ soccer and track and field teams have also achieved state titles. Providence Academy graduates have gone on to achieve great things. Maddyn Greenway, daughter of former NFL player Chad Greenway, and Ari Peterson, daughter of NFL star Adrian Peterson, are among its notable alumni. Providence Academy stands as a testament to the power of vision and dedication. It continues to provide a nurturing and challenging environment where students can grow in faith, knowledge, and virtue.
