Founded in 1930 as Ghana’s first Catholic school, St. Augustine’s College began its journey in the humble village of Amissano, near Elmina. The founders envisioned a place where young men could receive a holistic education, grounded in Catholic values. They named it after the influential philosopher and theologian, St. Augustine of Hippo. The school’s motto, “Omnia Vincit Labor,” meaning “Perseverance conquers all,” reflects this commitment to hard work and dedication. Now located in Cape Coast, St. Augustine’s College boasts twelve houses, each contributing to the school’s vibrant tapestry of student life. St. Augustine’s College, affectionately known as “AUGUSCO,” has a rich history of academic excellence. Its students consistently achieve top marks in the WAEC exams, a testament to the quality of education provided here. The college has also made its mark on the national stage, winning the National Science and Mathematics Quiz twice, in 2007 and 2019. In a remarkable feat, two students from the 2007 winning team went on to represent Ghana in international competitions. And in 2007, St. Augustine’s College achieved another milestone, winning the first and only West African Science and Math Quiz competition. St. Augustine’s College isn’t just about academics. The school fosters a strong sense of community and tradition. A unique bond exists between St. Augustine’s alumni, known as “APSUnians,” and the alumni of Holy Child High School. This connection often leads to marriages between graduates of the two schools, seen as a way to uphold Catholic traditions. The college grounds are alive with activity.
