A cornerstone. That’s what it felt like standing before Mary Immaculate Catholic Parish. Not just a building but a testament to faith built on decades of devotion. Mary Immaculate Catholic Parish wasn’t simply erected it was born. Born from the vision of Oblate Father Walter Arnold. He established this parish in 1956 in the Northwest corner of the Diocese of Dallas. Imagine the landscape then less developed more pastoral. The first Mass was held on July 29 1956 in an unlikely venue the old Dallas Gun Club building. A temporary chapel a temporary home for a burgeoning community of faith.
The early years were a testament to resourcefulness. A rectory was purchased in 1958. The same year saw the dedication of the first permanent structure a combination chapel and cafeteria. This building marked a significant step towards establishing a true parish home. Growth followed quickly. In 1959 a school opened. Four Benedictine sisters from Lisle Illinois and two lay teachers educated 215 students. The school expanded needing more space. Multiple buildings were added throughout the following decades. The parish community’s dedication was undeniable.
In the 1970s the Benedictine sisters were succeeded by the Incarnate Word of the Blessed Sacrament Sisters from Texas. The 1980s brought the construction of the current Parish Hall. This versatile space served as a gymnasium cafeteria and social center. This showed the ever-increasing growth of the parish. The 2000s witnessed another significant expansion. A new sanctuary and church office building were erected. The old sanctuary was transformed into a gymnasium art room and school offices thanks to the generous efforts of the parish alumni and school families. Six hundred fifty thousand dollars went into these renovations a testament to their collective belief.
The achievements of Mary Immaculate Catholic Parish continued to blossom. In 2008 Mary Immaculate School achieved the honor of becoming a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. This was a landmark achievement. They achieved a $1 million endowment goal in 2011. In 2012 a substantial investment transformed the art room into a dual-purpose art/science center. The school demonstrated its commitment to excellence in education. They continued to grow with new facilities. In 2019 the Dominican Sisters of St Cecilia joined the school. They brought their faith and experience to Mary Immaculate Parish. The parish continues to serve its community. It offers Sacramental graces blessings and ministries. It’s a place to pray grow and serve. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a vibrant living testament to the enduring power of faith.
