Glyn School

Nestled in Ewell, Glyn School has witnessed a fascinating evolution. Originally Epsom County School for Boys, established in 1927, it began its journey in the Technical Institute on Church Street. The school relocated to its current Kingsway location in February 1939. Interestingly, it retained the name Epsom County School for Boys for years after the move. Glyn School later became an academy. In 2018, Glyn School pupils achieved an impressive average Attainment 8 score of 56.2. This score outperformed both the local authority average of 50.2 and the national average of 46.4. Ofsted’s most recent inspection in 2023 awarded Glyn School an “Outstanding” rating, a testament to its dedication to quality education. A poignant reminder of history rests in the school’s quadrangle. A memorial honors 32 former students who lost their lives in World War II. A later addition commemorates Major Paul Harding, an alumnus killed in Iraq in 2007. This memorial serves as a solemn tribute and a link to the past for the Glyn School community. In 2017/18, Glyn School’s attendance record was remarkable, with only 4.3% of half-day sessions missed, compared to the national secondary school average of 5.5%. Glyn School is more than just an institution; it’s a living testament to the legacy of Arthur Glyn, who served as Chairman of Governors and whose contributions to education were so significant that the school was renamed in his honor.
