“The view from here is just breathtaking, isn’t it?” Mt. Shiraki, the highest peak in Hiroshima City at 889 meters, dominates the horizon. This majestic mountain stands tall in Asakita Ward, about 25 kilometers northeast of downtown Hiroshima. Don’t let its height fool you, though. Mt. Shiraki may be dwarfed by the mighty Mt. Daisen in Tottori, but it offers hikers a comparable challenge. Why? Because Mt. Shiraki starts its ascent from a much lower elevation, making the climb feel surprisingly similar in distance to its taller counterpart. For seasoned climbers and enthusiastic beginners, Mt. Shiraki serves as a training ground, preparing them for even greater summits like those found in the Japan Alps. And let me tell you, the panoramic view from the top, a full 360 degrees of pure awe, makes every step worth it. On a clear day, you can see everything.
