Before the present building stood a thriving complex. A brickworks brewery and distillery operated here as early as 1669. The estate enjoyed a prosperous existence long before the current Herrenhaus was erected. It was owned by influential families including the Reimers and later Baroness von Fuchs-Nordhoff who landscaped the expansive park. Even the Saxon King visited in 1885 and 1890. Imagine the grandeur of those royal visits. The Countess Schimmelmann owned the estate until 1945. After that the building was used as a children’s home.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall the Ehemaliges Herrenhaus stood empty. It was at risk of falling into ruin. Then in 2013 a major restoration project commenced. The project was finished in 2015. Now meticulously renovated the Herrenhaus gleams in all its former glory.
Today the Ehemaliges Herrenhaus is operated by the Hotel Michaelis GmbH. It hosts countless events from lavish weddings to intimate dinners. The Spiegel Saal the roof terrace and the rustic cellar are its highlights. The hotel regularly organizes culinary events like Easter brunch and Valentine’s Day dinners.
